A Bird’s Perspective: Learning to Trust God

Trust God

On a warm Texas spring day, a Mockingbird and a Blue Jay were flying around enjoying the fine weather and they both just happened to land on the same fence post at the same time. Most of the time, Mockingbirds and Blue Jays don’t get along much but this time they both stayed on the fence and greeted each other with a slight nod of their feathered heads.

The Mockingbird rustled his feathers, stuck out his chest and broke out into a beautiful but very loud song. The Blue Jay was a little put off by the Mockingbird with his cheerful song.

The Blue Jay looked over at the Mockingbird and asked him, “What are you so happy about?”

“Isn’t it a beautiful day today? I just can’t help but break out into song!”

The Blue Jay answered back, “Yes … I noticed that. You were a little loud … weren’t you?”

The Mockingbird was surprised by the Blue Jay’s attitude, and was concerned.

He asked, “Is there anything wrong, Blue Jay?”

The Blue Jay acted like he didn’t appreciate the Mockingbird’s question.

“Well … if you must know, I am a little worried.”

The Mockingbird was a little puzzled by the Blue Jay’s remark and asked him, “What could you be so worried about on this fine day?”

“Well, if you must know, Mockingbird, I am hungry! I don’t know where I am going to find any food. It hasn’t rained lately and finding something to eat hasn’t been so easy.”

“Oh.” The Mockingbird said a quick silent prayer for his new friend.

The Mockingbird pondered a little longer and then replied, “Blue Jay, don’t you know that we are birds who fly around all day?  Don’t you know that we don’t have to worry about what we are going to eat or where we are going to sleep?”

Wishing that he didn’t say anything to the Mockingbird, he replied, “Well, you may have a storehouse of food somewhere, but I don’t!”

“Blue Jay, I don’t have a storehouse of food, but what I do have is my faith that my creator will provide food and shelter for me because He loves me. He provides everything I need and He does the same for you. He loves you and He will always take care of you. All you have to do is trust Him and have faith.”

The Blue Jay was very happy about what the Mockingbird told him. He stood tall, stuck out his chest, rustled his feathers and broke out into a song, a very loud song.

This may be a silly story about two birds talking but isn’t it similar of how sometimes we are worrying about our needs, stressing over things that we cannot control and living our lives with anxiety?

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable than they are? Matthew 6:26 New Living Translation

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Philippians 4:6 New Living Translation
