When Jesus Is Guiding Your Way

Trusting God When You Don't Know What to Do

trust-in-the-Lord

Or perhaps you found yourself standing in the middle of circumstances you never expected to face, wondering, Lord, what am I supposed to do now?

I’ve been there.

And maybe you have, too.

One of the hardest things about trusting God is that He doesn't always give us the entire map.

We want to know where the road leads. We want to know how long the journey will take. We want to know what is waiting around the next corner.

But when Jesus is guiding your way, He often gives you something different than you expected.

He gives us His hand.

And sometimes, His hand is all we really need.

When Jesus is guiding your way, but you weren’t sure what to do. Have you ever stood in a place in your life where you didn’t know which way to go?

Maybe you had a plan. You thought you knew what the next chapter would look like. You had dreams, expectations, and perhaps even a carefully mapped-out path.

And then life happens.

A door closed.

Plans changed.

Something you counted on didn’t work out.

We Don't Have to Know the Way

I love the picture of a hand reaching out to guide someone along a path because it reminds me that following God isn’t about knowing everything. When Jesus is guiding your way, it’s about knowing who is leading us and will we listen and follow Him.

Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean completely on our own understanding. When we acknowledge Him, He will direct our paths.

That doesn’t mean we’ll understand every turn.

It doesn’t mean we’ll always like the direction.

And it certainly doesn’t mean the road will always be easy.

It means we can trust the One who sees what we cannot.

Think about how different life feels when you know someone you trust is walking beside you.

The road may still be unfamiliar, but you don’t feel quite as afraid.

The darkness may still be there, but you don’t feel quite as alone.

That’s what I believe the Lord offers us.

Not necessarily a life without uncertainty, but His presence in the uncertainty.

Sometimes God Guides Us Through Closed Doors

There have been times when I’ve prayed for a particular door to open, only to watch it close instead. At the time, a closed door can feel like rejection. It can feel like God didn’t hear my prayer. I discovered a closed door was actually God’s protection.

God may allow us to walk through a difficult season because there is something He wants to teach us there. We may not understand it while we’re walking through it. That’s the difficult part. Faith often means trusting God before we have the explanation. We want Him to show us why. He may simply be asking us to trust Him with what’s next.

What Happened to You Isn't the End of Your Story

I think many of us carry things from our past that quietly influence the way we see our future. A mistake, a broken relationship or a disappointment. A season we wish we could erase.

Words someone spoke over us. A dream that never happened. Maybe you’ve even looked at your life and thought, “This isn’t where I thought I’d be.” If that’s where you are today, I want to remind you of something: Your past does not have the final word.

God does.

❤️He is not limited by the things that have happened to you.

❤️He is not surprised by the detours.

❤️He is not intimidated by the messes.

❤️He is not finished simply because something didn’t turn out the way you thought it would.

God can still lead you somewhere beautiful.

Sometimes the path He gives us looks nothing like the path we would have chosen for ourselves. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t good.

Maybe You Only Need the Next Step

If you’re facing a decision today, don’t pressure yourself to figure out it out on your own. Pray about your next step. Ask God for wisdom and to give you discernment. Ask Him to make the right door clearly, and if the way isn’t clear yet? Wait. There is nothing wrong with waiting on God. Sometimes waiting is where our faith grows deepest. Sometimes the quiet season is where God prepares us for something we cannot yet see. And sometimes the most faithful thing we can say is simply: “Lord, I don’t know where this road leads, but I trust You to lead me.”

A Prayer for the Journey

Dear Lord,

There are times when I don’t know which way to turn. I want answers, direction, and certainty, but You ask me to trust You. Help me remember that I don’t have to see the entire road when You are walking beside me.

Give me wisdom for the decisions ahead. Give me courage when I’m afraid. Give me patience when I have to wait. And when the road takes an unexpected turn, help me trust that Your hand is still guiding me.

Help me release the things from my past that keep me from moving forward. Remind me that my mistakes, disappointments, and difficult seasons do not get the final word. You do. So today, Lord, I place my hand in Yours. Guide my way. One step at a time. Amen.
